Where are the waterfalls?

The Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area is bejeweled with an array of sparkling waterfalls.  There is a map available in our guest concierge corner and the front desk staff is happy to help with your questions.

The scenic area consists of 77 tiered, plunging, and horsetail waterfall formations.  All can be reached from Route 30 Historic Columbia River Highway, which parallels I-84.  For the sake of space we will cover the more popular falls here.

Multnomah Falls –  is the country’s second largest year-round waterfall and is the most popular waterfall for residents and visitors alike.  Multnomah Falls is located in Bridal Veil, Oregon:  From Whispering Woods Resort take US 26 W/Mt Hood Hwy to I-84 E/US 30 E toward Hood River. Take exit 28 toward Bridal Veil/Historic Columbia River Hwy, then merge onto E Bridal Veil Rd. Continue onto E Historic Columbia River Hwy. Multnomah Falls will be flowing away on your left. Enjoy the lodge, shop and restaurant while you’re there!

Latourell Falls – also is along the Historic Columbia River Highway.   From Whispering Woods turn left onto US-26 W/Mt. Hood Hwy; proceed for 25 miles. Turn right onto SE  Palmquist Rd then left onto SE 257thDr/NE Kane Dr, continue for 2 miles. Turn right onto SE Stark Street then right onto E Crown Point Hwy/Historic Columbia River Hwy.  Make a left onto E Bell Rd and continue on E Historic Columbia River Hwy for 6 miles.  Latourell Falls is a tiered falls that includes a picnic area from which to view the lower falls while you munch.

Shepperd’s Dell – is one mile from Latourell Falls along the Historic Highway off Interstate 84. Pack a picnic lunch and dine outdoors at Shepperd’s Dell State Park after you experience this combination of tiered and horsetail falls.

Bridal Veil Falls– Continuing further on Route 30 from Sheppard’s Dell Falls you will come to Bridal Veil Falls with its upper and lower tiered display. Wear your hiking boots for the 2.2 mile round trip or, if you didn’t bring your boots, you can conveniently view the falls from I-84.

Wahkeena Falls – 3 miles east of Bridal Veil Falls and 0.5 miles west of Multnomah Falls is Wahkeena Falls with a convenient picnic area where you’re able to view the 242 foot falls.

Horsetail Falls— is 3 miles east of Multnomah Falls, located along Hwy 30, near Ainsworth State Park. The waterfall is a 192 foot horsetail shaped, it’s narrow and long. It was named well.
